Reprise Theatre Co. production - May 6-18, 2008
I hadn't heard of this show before the announcement came that Eden Espinosa would be staring in the Reprise production. I knew of the Kander/Ebb creations Cabaret and Chicago, of course, so the opportunity to see their very first show was reason enough to buy a ticket. To see how their collaboration started vs. how far they had come... having just seen their final production, Curtains... would be extremely educational and inspiring. However, it was Eden playing the title role that sent me to the theatre three times to experience this production.
My Flora Reviews
It's the 1930's Depression, and vivacious, young, wannabe fashion illustrator, Flora Mezaros, meets Harry Toukarian, an artist, at a job interview. Before he can say "co-co-co-communist" she sweeps him off his feet, entrenches him into her artist studio commune, and sets up a complicated struggle between political/social ideals and true love. To make matters worse, Harry's party comrade, Charlotte, has her own designs on Harry, and Flora's new boss considers the idea of a workers union as near criminal. What's a girl to do?
