| Series One: |
|
In addition to Helen [Simone Lahbib]
and Nikki [Mandana Jones],
there are other great characters on the program whom I've grown to love and love to hate: |
|
The 2 Julies - two former prostitutes, both named Julie,
who are bound at the hip, so to speak. They are comic relief most of the time - utterly adorable as they clean and sew and do
odd jobs for some of the girls; give advice when needed... or not; share their unique perspective on what's happening around them;
and fret about their kids on the outside and what they're going to do when they get out of prison.
[played by Victoria Alcock & Kika Mirylees] |
|
Yvonne Atkins - a gangster's wife set on making her life
on G-Wing as close to the life she has grown accustomed to as is humanly possible. She's tough and bossy, and her #1 priority
is her own survival. However, she's known to care for and help some of the girls in need, as she becomes a bit of a mother figure
to the young ones. She also develops an odd friendship with Nikki as they join forces on occation to keep order on the wing,
against screw and con alike. [played by Linda Henry] |
|
Jim Fenner - the principal officer, bound and determined to
get rid of Helen, the perennial thorn in his side, and any other higher-up who gets in his way. If there's trouble on the wing, Jim has
or will have a hand in it. A keen member of the "old boys network", he has a reputation, and rightly so, of "taking advantage" of some
of the prisoners. [played by Jack Ellis] |
|
Shell Dockley - Fenner's stooge on the inside,
and Nikki's #1 enemy. She's the psychotic "slut" of G-Wing. And because she's Fenner's pet, she thinks that gives her power
and privilege. However, things don't often go her way, especially when Helen enters the picture, and Shell realizes that Nikki's
connection to the Wing Gov gives her more "power" than Shell has. [played by Debra Stephenson] |
|
Sylvia Hollamby - aka "Bodybag" - another long time
senior officer who wants to just get by until she can retire and get her pension. Her greatest wish would be to lock up
all the animals (prisoners) in their cages (cells) for the duration. She detests change, hard work... and lesbians. "Disgusting!"
[played by Helen Fraser] |
|
Dominic McAllister - a rookie officer who respects Helen
(not to mention has a "thing" for her) and tries to help her in her cause by treating the women as human beings, not animals.
[Joe Shaw] |
|
Denny Blood - a street kid, in for arson, who was raised in
foster care and spent most of her life in correctional facilities. When we first see her, she's Shell's thug of a side-kick, but gradually
she wises up and shows signs of trying to get her act together. [Alicia Eyo] |
|
Zandra Plackett - a desperate drug addict who discovers she's
pregnant soon after arriving on G-Wing. Only after she cleans up is she able to start making true friends. Unfortunately,
her transformation comes a little late. [Lara Cazalet] |
|
Crystal Gordon - a Bible-thumping shoplifter who gets off to a
rocky start with the girls, but over time gains their respect and friendship. [Sharon Duncan-Brewster] |
|
Monica Lindsey - middle-class, middle-aged inmate, wrongly
accused of handling stolen funds. She quickly becomes friends with Nikki upon her shocking introduction to life on G-Wing, and
suffers greatly due to the fact that her son has down-syndrome and has never been apart from her his whole
life. [Jane Lowe] |
|
Rachel Hicks - mousy, introvert who is a prime target for
bullies and abuse, primarily from Shell and Fenner. Unable to defend herself, she unfortunately chooses to go it alone and refuses
all help from those who can see that she's in trouble, namely Nikki and Helen. This results in tragic consequences that affect
many lives. [Joanne Frogatt] |
|
Lorna Rose - dedicated, ambitious officer who, despite her
good intentions, gets too cocky for her own good and winds up way over her head in trouble. [Luisa Bradshaw-White] |
| [BACK] |
| Series Two: |
|
Karen Betts - a highly professional but sympathetic senior
officer, who gets a bump up to Wing Governor upon Helen's resignation. Having been in the prison service a good many years, she
fairs a tad better in the job than Helen. However, even Karen has her share of troubles. She and Fenner have a past.
Will he be her downfall? [Claire King] |
|
Barbara Hunt - middle-aged mercy killer and widow who
is Nikki's cellmate and confidante. Over time, her survival instincts and intelligence prove great assets to her and to others.
Expect the unexpected from Barbara. [Isabelle Amyes] |
|
Di Barker - quiet, well-meaning officer who wants to be liked
by everyone. Of course, it's the quiet ones you need to worry about... especially someone who is desperate to find "mister right".
[Tracey Wilkinson] |
|
Josh Mitchell - Larkhall maintenance man who falls in love with
Crystal. With Di's encouragement, he becomes a P.O. after Crystal is put back on G-Wing for additional charges.
[Nathan Constance] |
|
Shaz Wylie - spunky, energetic triple murderer who hooks up
with Denny. After Denny's departure from Larkhall, Shaz becomes an easy target for bullies. How will she survive on her own?
[Lindsey Fawcett] |

| Series Three: |

Dr. Thomas Waugh - a psychiatrist Helen brings in
to consult on a prisoner's mental health status. With the discharge of Dr. Nicholson, the inept former Senior Medical Office, Helen,
as acting #1 Governor, gets Thomas appointed the new SMO. Thomas soon becomes Helen's confidante - a nice guy who cares
about the prisoners' welfare. Is he the answer to Helen's romantic dreams? [Michael Higgs] |
|
Maxi Purvis - a punk thief and leader of the Peckham Boot Gang -
a motley crew of three who come to Larkhall looking to rule the roost. Maxi butts heads with Yvonne, vying for "top-dog" status. As
tough, brave and cunning as Maxi is, the one thing she can't handle is humiliation. [Kerry Norton] |
|
Al McKenzie - with Maxi as "mouth-piece" for the Gang, Al
provides the fists. She has a short fuse to her temper and follows Maxi's lead... regardless of the crime, or the consequences.
As another bully coming from an abusive childhood, will Al be able to find a way to curb her temper and change her ways?
[Pauline Campbell] |
|
Tina (Purvis) O'Kane - young, impressionable sister to Maxi.
Originally a member of the Peckham Boot Gang, Tina befriends Virginia O'Kane and quickly turns her back on her sister. After being
rejected by her father, Tina decides to change her name to O'Kane, in honor of her friend. A good mate to many of the women, over
time, she too easily becomes institutionalized. [Victoria Bush] |
|
Virginia O'Kane - successful Madame and former boss of the
two Julies. Claiming she has MD, she gets sympathy from inmates and officers alike. However, Virginia's kind exterior masks
her cunning business sense. Of course, doing business with Fenner is bad news for even the cleverest of criminals.
[Kate O'Mara] |
|
Buki Lester - a young drug addict and cutter who functions as
drug-dealer while on G-Wing. She spins story after story to convince people that she's more than she is. It's not until Officer Waddle
takes an interest in helping her that her life begins to change for the better. [Kim Oliver] |
|
Gina Rossi - a flirty officer with attitude. She and Mark are an
item who spend more time fighting over their respective jealousies than they do being happy together. It doesn't look good for them,
especially when Di sets her sights on Mark. [Lisa Turner] |
|
Mark Waddle - a "nice guy" officer who does his best to help
several of the girls, and finds a "friend" in Karen. Is he the man who can make her forget about Fenner? [Paul Opacic] |
| [BACK] |
| Series Four: |
|
Cassie Tyler - an embezzler whose clevererness with
figures quickly befriends her to many of the women. She appears confident and comfortable with herself and her new environment,
however her patience is tested by her lover and cell mate, Roisin. [Kellie Bright] |
|
