Serving in Silence:
The Mararette Cammermeyer Story
(1995)

The true story of Col. Margarethe 'Grethe' Cammermeyer's (Glenn Close) fight to continue her long and decorated career serving in the Army, after they threaten to discharge her due to her own admittance of being a lesbian during a security upgrade interview. The divorced Col. shifted from active duty to the reserves, moved from San Francisco to Seattle and got a job as head nurse at a VA hospital, all to be closer to her 4 sons.

Then she met Diane (Judy Davis), an artist from LA, and the two women fell in love, changing the Colonel's life forever. Mararette is sent on an unexpected journey of courage and faith she never dreamed she'd have to face. This is a touching story about discovery, being honest and true to oneself, fighting for your rights to be yourself, and to have love of friends and family supporting you no matter what the cost. Both Glenn and Judy received well deserved Emmy awards for their inspired work in this tele-film.
